The problem we were facing was that the NFC scanning explanation video was out of date and could not be customised - we had promised Google full customisation in their contract. My role was to build a new experience for Google, ensuring research based, fully customisable designs.

My final designs from this project are being used by Google's millions of users across the globe to make their NFC scanning experience simple, trustworthy and stress free.

I did research about other NFC scanning videos e.g at airports noticed that the better experience came from simple animation videos with less / no copy. Therefore, I decided to move down this path for the redesign as we needed a simple and customisable experience for Google.

In the iteration process for these designs I tested many different frame sizes (as the designs needed to be applicable to both Android and iPhone), constructed the end-to-end flows whilst taking into account possible errors and transitions, reduced copy to lower the cognitive load for the users, worked with the development team to ensure ease of build, and built the designs using Veriff's design system to ensure customisation options for Google.

Once we had been through a few rounds of testing with the developing designs, I took the final designs to the team for implementation across all our platforms and the product was given to Google.

As seen below, the final solution was an animation as opposed to a video. The animation is fully customisable in terms of colours, sizing and typography, and follows the path of the user's phone during the NFC scanning process.

It is a simple yet affective design, currently used by millions of Google customers.
